Peter Finch discusses psychogeography and how this led him to the reality of Welsh cities, the discovery of their hidden pasts and the layers of the present that ebb and flow. Beginning with the capital and Real Cardiff One in 2003 the Real idea soon became a flood encompassing every urban area of Wales. Utilizing the skills of others the Real series took in Newport, Merthyr, Wrexham, Aberystwyth, Liverpool, South Pembroke, and then Swansea (twice) and more recently Gower. The series now consists of more than twenty volumes spreading itself out beyond Wales to include Glasgow, Chester, Bloomsbury, Cambridge, Hay of Wye, Barnsley, Bristol and beyond.
Finch is a poet (Selected Later Poems and Zen Cymru both from Seren) with more than twenty books to his credit. He has recently published The Roots of Rock From Cardiff to Mississippi and Back (Seren), a musical history and journey. He is currently working on both The Machineries of Joy, his next collection of verse, Real Cardiff The Flourishing City and Walking Cardiff, a book with the photographer John Briggs.
Expect talk, questions, humour and perhaps even the occasional blast of public verse.
